Challenge
Phillips Law Group referred out every case worth under a certain value threshold, because a small case consumes the same processing capacity as a catastrophic one — and taking them in-house would have buried the firm's systems.
Solution
The firm kept those cases instead, pairing third-party case management services with Supio Agent to run rating, drafting, and case processing behind the scenes.
Result
A 1,400-case portfolio staffed by two lawyers and one legal assistant, earning 2.7x the average fee the firm would have collected by referring the same cases out, and on pace for $9 million in fees this year.

Challenge

Phillips Law Group has spent more than 30 years building one of the best-known plaintiff practices in the Southwest. From its Phoenix office, the firm has recovered more than $2 billion for clients, carries 3,500+ five-star Google reviews, and was named one of the Best Law Firms in America for 2026

None of that scale changed the arithmetic on small cases. For years, any matter valued under a certain threshold got referred out—not because the firm didn't want to represent the client, but because the work costs the same to do regardless of what it returns.

"What's the difference between a $5,000 case and a $5 million case? Nothing. Literally nothing. They have to be processed the same. They have to be handled the same. If I'm going to take those cases, it's just going to weigh down my systems."

— Nasser Abujbarah, Managing Partner, Phillips Law Group

Referring out solved the capacity problem, but gave away most of the economics. Every one of those files went to another firm along with the fee, the client relationship, and any future case that client might have sent back. The alternative—staffing up to absorb thousands of low-value matters—meant hiring against the thinnest margins in the practice.

Solution

About a year ago, Abujbarah decided to test his assumption. The firm stopped referring out and started keeping these cases in-house, combining third-party case management services with Supio to carry the processing load.

The design principle was to separate the two halves of the work. Documents, records, rating, and drafting move through Supio, and attorney time goes almost entirely to spending time with clients.

"The irony of all of this is that clients still want to hear from people," Nasser Abujbarah said. "In this department, the attorney's only job, literally his only job, is to talk to the clients. The processing is happening behind the scenes. We've automated the whole thing at this point."

What began as a fix for one portfolio spread through the firm on its own since the introduction of Supio Agent. Rather than a single configured workflow, people started building Agent around how they individually work: skills for the tasks they repeat, and memory that accumulates their preferences and their work history.

Abujbarah has built a custom Skill that runs at 5:08 a.m. every morning. It includes a brief on the prior day, anything he missed, and what needs his follow-up before the practice opens. Supio Agent also rates every personal injury case that comes into the firm, and it has learned enough about Phillips Law Group's history to have learned exactly how he does it.

"It now rates all my PI cases for me within a percent of what I would have rated them. Every single person in my firm is using it in their own way. They're developing it into their own assistant."

The 1,400-case portfolio Phillips Law Group used to refer outside of their practice now runs on three people and is on pace for $9 million in fees this year. Each case earns 2.7x what the firm would have netted on a referral, and the caseload-to-headcount ratio is one that would have been impossible to staff under the old model. The firm no longer hires to process small cases; it hires to talk to the clients who have them.

The risk in that trade was always service quality, and it was the part Abujbarah watched most closely. "With building this program there was always the fear of client complaints. To date, we haven't had a single one," said Nasser Abujbarah.

The same economics let the firm build something new. Phillips Law Group has stood up a ride-share sexual abuse department, a practice that sits between single-event litigation and mass tort: each survivor's damages are individual, but the underlying facts repeat closely enough that the cases can be worked in parallel.

Intake runs in three layers—an initial vendor screen, a smart review, then a lawyer—with every call recorded and quality-checked both inside the firm and by an outside partner. Supio Agent works the file alongside that process rather than after it. By the time the third conversation ends and the firm has confirmed the case meets its standards, Agent has rated it, produced the plaintiff fact sheet, and drafted the complaint. The suit is ready to file the moment a human says yes.

"It's a supercharge effect. I've been in this industry long enough to have seen enough imposters. Supio is top of class—and they let me yell at them to change things, which is always nice. It's an unlock, and we're just getting started."

— Nasser Abujbarah, Managing Partner, Phillips Law Group
